Summer School offers a wonderful opportunity to deepen student's comprehension of nonfiction texts and build knowledge across the curriculum.

This free pacing guide is designed to be used in conjunction with The Comprehension Toolkit series (primary or intermediate) to provide intensive summer school literacy instruction in grades K–6. It can help any teacher, even ones with little experience teaching reading, to provide excellent, explicit comprehension instruction. The guide includes three sections:

• Getting Started—a professional orientation to using Toolkit to power summer-school instruction
• Guiding Student Reading—suggested weekly reading pacing using high-yield, powerful Toolkit lessons
• Assessing for Instruction and Progress—a variety of forms for tracking student learning.
